Weather / Field Cancellations

Our goal is to play through weather if it is safe to do so; Player safety is our priority. We actively monitor the forecast using multiple websites & weather apps to ensure safe playing conditions. Bookmark this page for up-to-date information regarding potential weather cancellations or delays. We will communicate all changes as well as update changes here.

☀️Heat Safety

The heat index is how hot it really feels when the relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature. When the heat index reaches 100 degrees or higher, it can be dangerous to be outdoors for any significant amount of time. Too much time spent in the heat and humidity can place you at risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

❄️Cold Safety

We monitor the weather forecast, field conditions, wind speed and temperature leading up to scheduled games, and make our determination at location to ensure accuracy. Visit our COLD WEATHER GUIDELINES PAGE used to determine weather delays or cancellations. We play in "GREEN" conditions, and make a judgement call in any other condition range based on time of day, forecast, player age, and many other factors to make the best determination possible.

Lightning Safety

Lightning is one of the most consistent causes of weather-related deaths and injury in the U.S.  According to the National Severe Storms Laboratory, there are approximately 100 lightning-related deaths and over 1000 injuries yearly. Risk is present WHENEVER lightning can be seen, or thunder can be heard. As soon as cloud-to-ground lightning is seen or thunder is heard, practice and competition should be suspended immediately.

  1. When thunder is heard or lightning is seen*, the leading edge of the thunderstorm is close enough to strike your location. Suspend play for at least 15-minutes and vacate the outdoor activity to the previously designated safer location immediately.
  2. Once play has been suspended, wait at least 15 minutes after the last thunder is heard or lightning is witnessed* prior to resuming play.
  3. Any subsequent thunder or lightning* after the beginning of the 15-minute count will reset the clock and another 15-minute count should begin.

GPFF asks our parents to be mindful of any impending weather that may occur during your child's practice. Stay close to the area or remain at the field. The safest place for you player to go to while lightning is in the area wis with you in your car.
